Mike Brandt’s client was charged with Domestic Assault for getting into a drunken altercation with his estranged brother. The client’s brother, the brother’s wife, and Mike’s client’s nephew all alleged that Mike’s client showed up at their house, acted abusively, and assaulted the brother. Mike’s client took issue with those facts, but did admit that he used some rather “colorful language” with his brother’s wife. Mike did significant investigation into the case and interviewed numerous witnesses and convinced the prosecutor to reduce the charges to Disorderly Conduct. Not only did Mike get the charges reduced, he also got the prosecutor to agree to a stay of adjudication, which means that no “conviction” was entered on his client’s record and that upon successful completion of probation, the charges against Mike’s client will be dismissed. Additionally, once the charges are dismissed, Mike’s client will be eligible to have any records of the case expunged (sealed) so it will look like this incident never happened.
