Mike Brandt’s client was charged with felony Terroristic Threats for allegedly taking a shotgun and threatening to kill his girlfriend. In addition to those allegations, there were other allegations that he engaged in some very inappropriate sexual contact with her. Because a firearm was allegedly used, Mike’s client was facing the possibility of three years in prison if he was convicted of the charge. In preparing the case, Mike conducted an investigation into the background of the alleged victim, her reputation for dishonesty, and provided a great deal of information to the prosecutor regarding his client. Based upon all of that information, the prosecutor agreed to reduce the charges to a misdemeanor assault. Mike’s client took advantage of that negotiation, and was placed on probation for two years, did not have to serve any additional jail time, and was required to not use drugs or alcohol and attend AA meetings. This case is a great example of how investigation, preparation, and a thorough understanding of the facts and the law results in a great outcome for our clients.
