Brandt Criminal Defense Team
Since graduating from William Mitchell College of Law with honors, Mike Brandt has devoted himself to defending persons finding themselves on the wrong side of the law. Mike started his career with the Public Defenders in Anoka County where he represented clients on every type of criminal charge from murder to speeding. During his years as a public defender, Mike conducted jury trials on cases involving homicide, sexual assault, physical assault, drugs, theft, and various other charges. As a public defender, Mike had numerous cases dismissed, evidence suppressed, and probation violations defeated. After establishing a record as a zealous advocate for his clients who is willing to fight the long hard battle, Mike was courted into private practice. In 1999, Mike joined the firm of Alan Caplan and Associates as an associate.
Kelly J. Keegan has been with Brandt Criminal Defense since 2005. In that time, she has been lead defense counsel on numerous cases of all types and levels, ranging from serious felonies to minor traffic offenses. Additionally, Kelly handles post-conviction matters, such as expungements, probation violations, Department of Human Services background study disqualifications, reinstatement of the right to possess firearms, and sentence modification motions. She has represented clients under investigation prior to being formally charged, as well as clients facing grand jury indictment. Kelly is admitted to practice in Minnesota State Court as well as Federal United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. She enjoys working in the courtroom and has obtained excellent results for clients, including dismissal of charges, suppression of evidence, and acquittal by felony jury.
Nicole prides herself on client service. Many clients charged with a crime need someone who is willing to understand and seek the very best course of action. Nicole prides herself in exploring all options and works hard to achieve the best outcome for the client. Nicole began her criminal defense career in 2008, first as a Law Clerk and then as a full-time attorney in downtown Minneapolis before joining Brandt Criminal Defense. She is currently admitted to all Courts within the State of Minnesota, as well as the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Eric comes to Brandt Criminal Defense with a wealth of criminal defense experience. While in law school, he was a law clerk with the First Judicial District Public Defender’s Office, as well as with the Public Defenders of the Bois Forte and Menominee Tribal Courts. He also worked in the Office of the Prosecutor (Appeals and Legal Advisory Division) at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. In addition to his defense work, he assisted the St. Louis Park City Attorney in prosecuting cases through the Misdemeanor Clinic at William Mitchell College of Law. Throughout these experiences, Eric has handled hundreds of cases, conducted bench trials, bail hearings, argued before the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and negotiated favorable resolutions for his clients.
