Mike Brandt’s client was arrested in Hennepin County in 2015 when she was caught with a substantial amount of methamphetamine. The charges against his client would have resulted in an executed prison sentence of 48 months. However, in preparing the case, Mike had his client obtain a chemical dependency evaluation and made sure that she got into a treatment program. In preparing the case, Mike also called into question the manner in which the police arrested his client and the way they conducted their investigation. Mike had filed numerous motions to have the evidence against his client thrown out and was prepared to litigate these issues on behalf of his client.
However, before the suppression hearing started, the prosecutor agreed to lower the charges to an offense that would not result in Mike’s client facing prison, but rather only 5 years of probation. Mike’s client accepted the reduced charge and if she successfully completes probation, the charges will drop down to a misdemeanor.
